Every time we open the tap, the water that we get has already travelled hundreds of kilometres. Once used, it will cover a long way to return to nature.
Outward journey: Supply.
Gathering from nature. The water that we drink in Murcia comes mostly from the surface and subterranean waters of the basin of the Segura river and from the water transfer Tajo-Segura.
Purification. A complex process of treatments makes it able to human consumption.
Storage. In Murcia the reservoirs store the water supply for 6 days.
Distribution. Water network in Murcia is about 3000 kilometres long and is controlled 24 hours a day to assure regularity and quality of supply.
Use. Water arrives there where we need it: crops, industries, homes, pools, gardens, irrigation heads and hydrants.
Return journey: Sanitation.
Treatment. Waste Water Treatment plants remove litter and polluting agents from water before returning it to nature.
Reuse. A part of the treated water is recycled to other purposes where to be drinkable is not a condition: irrigation of gardens, sport fields , clean the streets …
